In yet another encounter, four militants and a soldier were killed in Handwara area of north Kashmir. The encounter happened barely a day after a militant and an army personnel were killed in an encounter in north Kashmir’s Rafiabad area of Baramulla district.
According to reports, security forces launched an operation on Wednesday night after receiving inputs about presence of militants in the forest area of Sochalyari in Handwara area, around 95 kms from Srinagar. Four militants were killed in the gunfight. An Army personnel of 9 Para was also killed in the operation.
In the Rafiabad encounter, a top militant of Lashkar-e-Islam, a splinter group of Hizbul Mujahideen, was killed. One army jawan was also killed in that operation. Last week, four militants of Pakistan-origin were killed and one terrorist, Sajad Ahmad, was captured alive from Rafiabad, after a long gun battle. He was the second Pakistani terrorist to be captured in Jammu and Kashmir this month. Mohammad Naveed, reportedly trained by the Lashkar, was captured after he attacked a paramilitary convoy in Udhampur, on August 5.
