Two militants and a civilian were killed during a gun battle between security forces and terrorists in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district. Two Army men and one civilian were also injured in the overnight encounter, police said.
A joint team of police and the army, launched a searched operation based on a tip-off about the presence of terrorists in Redwani Bala village of the district, police added.
Earlier in the day, a civilian died after he was hit by a bullet. Police official said, Asif Ahmad Tantray, was hit by a “stray bullet” near the scene of the encounter, but locals alleged that the youth was shot dead by security forces in “cold blood”.
The death of the civilian caused clashes to erupt between the locals and security personnel in the area.
