Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 14 June and discuss the pending legislations in Rajya Sabha such as the government’s flagship Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill.
This apart, Jayalalithaa will also discuss the financial package for Tamil Nadu. Also, speculations are rife that Modi will seek the Anna Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam’s (AIADMK) support in the Upper House to help the ruling government pass GST Bill among others bills.
The AIADMK is the third largest party in the Upper House and its support can prove to be very crucial.
This apart, Jayalalithaa will seek the release of seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, it is an important vote bank politics issue for her.
Jayalalithaa is also likely to seek a financial package for Tamil Nadu, which has a debt burden of more than Rs 2 lakh crore. Also, Tamil Nadu will seek a corpus fund to deal with natural disasters such as Chennai floods.
