Italian marine case: SC serves notice to government

The Supreme Court issued a notice to the Central government on a fresh plea by Italy, seeking international arbitration in the Italian marines case.

On April 19, the SC had allowed the Latorre to remain in Italy, till July 15, on health grounds. The court also said that, the trial should be completed as soon as possible.

Latorre, who had undergone a cardiac surgery in Italy, in January, this year, had sought extension saying he had developed certain medical complications and requested the court to extend his stay on these grounds.

Latorre is one of the two Italian marines facing murder charges in the fishermen killing case.

Latorre was allowed to travel to his country in September last year by the SC, taking on record an undertaking by Latorre, regarding the dates of departure and arrival, back to India.
