An international kidney racket has been busted in Nalgonda district of Telangana state. The police have arrested four persons in this connection.
The police have busted the racket after getting vital information and have taken suo-motu action. Investigations are on and more arrests of culprits involved in the racket are expected.
The Nalgonda police arrested Suresh, 22, and three others for running an alleged kidney racket. Suresh is a second-year degree student pursuing hotel management in Hyderabad.
He made his entry by selling his kidney to a donor for Rs 5 lakh in December 2014. Addicted as he was to a lavish lifestyle, he later turned into an agent of the kingpin of international kidney racket, which was run from Sri Lanka.
The racket operated on social media and other internet platforms. He managed to lure 15 others and facilitated as many kidney transplantations. A a broker, Suresh pocketed Rs 50,000 to Rs. 1 lakh per transplant.
According to the police, the kidney transplantation surgeries were performed at Nawaloak Hospital, Western Hospital and Lankan Hospital in Colombo of Sri Lanka.
