A 23-year-old woman IT professional from Infosys, who was found dead last night in a conference room of the company in Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, Hinjawadi. The deceased has been identified as Rasila Raju hailing from Kerala.
On the basis CCTV footage a 26-year-old security guard has been held in link with the murder.
Arun Waikar, the senior police inspector with Hinjawadi Police Station said, “On the basis of the CCTV footage from the company premises and other clues, we zeroed down on a security guard from Assam, who after the incident, fled and now has been held in Mumbai”.
The suspect has been recognized as Bhabhen Saikia, from Assam who worked as a watchman at the Infosys unit.
According to the police, Rasila who was working as a system engineer with Infosys was strangled to death by a computer cable and was hit hard on the face. The police received the call around 8 PM while the incidence might have taken place at around 5 PM.
Rasila was on a 2 p.m. -11 p.m. shift. At 5 p.m., her team in Bangalore stopped receiving her calls. Then the team called security in the Pune campus.
ACP Vaishali Jadhav Mane told, “Her manager was trying to call her, but there was no response. He then called and asked a security guard to go and check, and when the security guard went to see her, the woman was found lying on the floor in an unconscious state in the conference room”.
“We have begun the primary probe. An FIR will be shortly registered. We are checking the CCTV footage and questioning other employees of the company,” ACP Mane added.
“We are saddened and shocked at this unfortunate incident and the loss of our colleague. Our prayers and sympathies are with our employee’s family and friends. We are focused on assisting the police with their investigation and providing all possible support to her family,” said Infosys in a statement.
It is the second murder of a female software professional in the city in a span of a month. Eearlier Antara Das, an employee of Capgemini, was murdered outside her office in the city’s Talawade area.
