India-borderEven as security forces resorted to firing on September 23 after noticing suspicious activity along the Line of Control in Keran Sector, a Pakistani national was apprehended at the Indo-Pak border in Akhnoor Sector by the Border Security Force.

As per reports, the jawans were taking part in extensive search operations in the area. More details are awaited.

While this was so, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz has said Islamabad was ready for unconditional talks with New Delhi to resolve all issues, including the K-issue. Any talks between the two countries cannot succeed till the Kashmir issue was included, according to reports.

According to media reports, a Pakistani scribe tweeted that F16 fighter jets were heard flying over Islamabad. Ever since the Uri terror attack, ties between India and Pakistan have gone to a new low and they have deteriorated further after Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif’s tirade at the UNGA where he went to the extent of calling slain Hizbul terrorist Burhan Wani a leader of the masses.

Even as the PM accused India of brutalities in Jammu and Kashmir, External Affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup, raising the Indus Water Treaty said, for any bilateral treaty to work, it was extremely important that there must be trust and cooperation within the two countries.

The World Bank had negotiated the treaty between the two countries in 1960, which has survived two wars and remains in force till today after Pakistan raised fears that since the source rivers of the Indus basin are in India, it could create droughts and famines in Pakistan virtually at will.
