Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to France is coming along extremely well as he announced that India will buy 36 Rafale modern jets, to modernize their air force. India will need to keep up with modern military equipment, and toffcials have spoken of how there could be a gap between the nation and neighbours Pakistan and China.
Defence Minister Manohar Parikkar said that the fighter plane will be introduced into the Indian force over the course of the next two years.
Dassault Aviation, the manufacturer of these Rafale jets, had previously delivered the Mirage jets to India. This isthe second of such orders.
French President Francois Hollande and Mr. Modi had a fruitful Friday, with the two signing 17 agreements.
“India has finally broken the ice over the deal which has been pending for the last 17 years. The Rafale Fighter deal is a great decision taken on the terms and conditions that are better,” said Parrikar to PTI.
The Prime Minister will attend a memorial at the Neuve Chapelle war memorial in Lille, to honour the 10,000 Indian soldiers who were killed during World War I.
