‘I will fight the battle against corruption until the very end’

In the end, it was a nail-biting victory for Som Dutt Sharma. He managed to scrape past the BJP’s Jai Prakash by 796 votes in the Sadar Bazaar constituency.

But having dabbled in student politics, this would not have come as a surprise. The 36-year-old cut his teeth in politics by winning two students’ union elections at Khalsa College in the Delhi University.

Despite having declared assets worth only Rs 5.75 lakh, he provides aid to poor students to fund their education. He also organises free medical check-ups in his locality. It was this streak of political activism, combined with his political past that drew him to AAP and their activities.

“I will stand shoulder to shoulder with you and fight in this battle against corruption until the very end,” Sharma promised the people while campaigning for votes.
