After a trial court in Delhi, convicted historian and Dastango Mahmood Farooqui of sexually assaulting an American scholar, social media has been abuzz with people commenting on the judgement. A section of activists has termed this judgement as the victory of truth while the directors family and friends believe that he has been falsely implicated in the case .

Farooqui’s wife and director of Peepli live, Anusha Rizvi told TEHELKA that their fight is far from over. And that they will challenge this decision in the higher court. She also claimed that the trial court has ignored to take into cognizance vital evidences that prove Mahmood’s innocence. However, she pledged to take on the fight further and expressed her faith in Indian judiciary.

“ We are yet to receive a copy of the final judgement and the quantum of punishment is not yet announced, once that is done, we will take the matter to the higher court, we are sure that the higher judiciary will rectify this error in judgement.”

Last year, a 35-year-old American scholar had accused Farooqui of assaulting her sexually at his Sukhdev Vihar residence in south Delhi.  Soon after which a FIR was lodged at New Friends colony police station on 19th June 2015 and a trial in the case started on September 9 2015.

Expressing her love for Farooqui, Anusha said, “My husband is my love and we will stand together in all good and difficult times.” Mahmood Farooqui was granted regular bail in January earlier this year and was out of jail since then.

Expressing her gratitude to all those standing with her and family in this difficult time, Anusha said,  I am thankful to friends and family members who have stood with us in this difficult time. I am not isolated at all. In fact, it is heart warming to see so many people standing by you in difficult times.”
