noidaEmployees at mobile phone maker Oppo’s Noida manufacturing facility protested against a senior officer from China, who allegedly tore the National Flag and threw it in the dustbin.

As soon as the word spread, in no time hundreds of protesters came out on to the streets in a bid to show their contempt for the disrespect shown to the Tricolour.

The company spokesperson issued a statement saying “Oppo has deep respect for Indians and is localised in the country.”

The Union External Affairs Ministry is probing the incident and Oppo is cooperating with the authorities in finding out the facts. However, there is no clarity as to what had caused the incident.

Operations at the Chinese firm in Sector 63, Noida were temporarily halted as employees protested outside the premises.

Social media also reacted strongly to the incident. Hashtags such as ‘How dare you Oppo’ and ‘Boycott China phones’ have been trending on Twitter.

Meanwhile, a police complaint has been filed against the Chinese under the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act that could send him to jail for an year.
