Hit and run case: Police arrest accused BMW driver, to be produced in court


Shopaib KohliThe police on January 23 arrested one Shoaib Kohli in a hit and run case, who was apparently driving the BMW when it rammed into a taxi killing its driver in south Delhi.

The police have arrested another person too, but his identity has not been revealed so far.

The Delhi Police will soon produce the accused, a resident of Panchsheel Park and works at an MNC, in a local court. They also filed a case of rash and negligent driving causing death against him.

The hit-and-run case took place near IIT hostel road in which the Uber cab (a WagonR) was hit from behind by the speeding BMW. The taxi driver, who died on the spot, has been identified as Nazrul of West Bengal.

As per eyewitness accounts, the taxi was flung into the air as the impact of the BMW hitting it from behind, the taxi apparently touched the ground after 50 metres.

Earlier, several taxi drivers gathered outside the Vasant Vihar Police station and protested demanded the arrest of the accused BMW driver.

The driver of the BMW managed to flee from the spot when the authorities rushed Nazrul to All India Institute of Medical Sciences trauma centre in a serious condition where he succumbed to his injuries.
