Veteran Actress and BJP MP Hema Malini’s driver has been detained and an FIR has been filed for rash driving after the Mercedes-Benz in which the actress was travelling collided with an Alto car in Dausa area of Rajasthan on 2 July.
A five-year-old girl, Sonam, was killed in the accident, while her six-year-old brother is in the ICU of a hospital with fractures in both arms and both legs.
The 66-year-old BJP MP was on her way to Jaipur and the child was one of the occupants in the Maruti Suzuki Alto car. Two women, a child and a man who were in the Alto car were injured in the accident. An FIR was lodged against Hema Malini’s driver, Ramesh Chand, by Sonam’s father. Chand has been booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
The FIR was lodged under various Sections of IPC, including 279 (rash driving) and 304 (A) (causing death by negligence), and both the vehicles were seized, the SHO Dilip Singh said. “It is to be ascertained how the accident occurred and who was at fault,” he said, adding there were three persons in the Mercedes—Hema Malini, her PA and the driver.
Hema Malini was admitted at Fortis hospital in Jaipur where she underwent treatment. “She suffered a cut near an eyebrow, some problem in the nasal bone, an injury on the forehead and had body ache,” Rajasthan minister Rajpal Singh Shekhawat, who visited her, told reporters.
On social media, people raised questions why the MP had not stayed back to help.
