Haji Rafat Hasan of All India Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen has warned Bhumata Ranarangini Brigade chief Trupti Desai of paining her face black if entered Mumbai’s Haji Ali Dargah.

After overturning the 400-year old tradition at the Shani Shingnapur temple of not allowing women in the sanctum sanctorum, Desai had announced a campaign—‘Haji Ali For All’— in April to allow women up to Pir Haji Ali Shah Bukhari’s tomb and to offer a ‘chadar’ there.

Earlier, she had announced to enter the dargah on 28 April. Women ere banned from entering the inner chamber of the dargah and only men are allowed inside. The ban was imposed on 2011.

Senior Shiv Sena leader Haji Arafat Shaikh threatened to welcome Desai with slippers’ if she entered the dargah. The Shiv Sena was quick to distance itself from Shaikh’s statement, saying that those were hus personal views.

The Haji Ali Dargah Trust also said it would be anti-Islam to let women enter the tomb. Azad Women Welfare Association chief Medina Shaikh joined him.

Meanwhile, Desai asked actors Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan to support her in her cause.
