Gearing up for 2019: Amit Shah tells RS MPs to adopt one LS seat

amit_shah2In order to gear up for the 2019 Lok Sabha parliamentary polls, BJP president Amit Shah has asked the party’s Rajya Sabha members to adopt one Lok Sabha seat each where the BJP had lost in 2014.

He said that they should care for the LS seat like a sitting MP would do. Party’s Rajya Sabha members have asked to nurse the seat with the objective of ensuring the BJP candidates’ victory in 2019.

Shah gave this diktat to 52 Rajya Sabha MPs at a meeting held on August 31. He and PM Narendra Modi said that the BJP CMs and party leaders from various states should work overtime to make the Centre’s “good governance” agenda and “pro-poor” policies a success.

Addressing the media, Union minister Prakash Javadekar said, “Shah has asked them to spend their MPLAD fund there and work for expanding the BJP’s image and ideology.”

Along with other ministers such as Arun Jaitley, M Venkaiah Naidu and Manohar Parrikar, he will join the MPs in adopting LS seats. The MPs have been asked to care for the seats in a way the Lok Sabha MPs from there would.

Asked what Rajya Sabha members from Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan would do, where the BJP had won nearly all seats in 2014, he said, “They will adopt a seat in those states and campaign as if they are the sitting Lok Sabha members from those seats.”

On asking if the party will field them in the Lok Sabha polls if they worked well, Javadekar said the party believes in  an evaluation process. The best candidate from there will get the ticket. The work done by these Rajya Sabha members will stand them in good stead, he added.
