Arun Verma , representing Sultanpur constituency, was the first party candidate for whom Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav campaigned after launching his bid last month for re-election in the ongoing Uttar Pradesh elections.
In the fifth phase of Assembly elections, Sultanpur district is bound to go to the polls on February 27.
Verma has denied any type of accusations against him including the role in the death of the 21-year-old who was found dead on February 12.
He added, “This is a conspiracy. I demand a CBI investigation in this case.” Verma asserted that this incident was intentional and is an attempt to demean him in the election bound constituency.
The father of the victim blamed Verma for the death, after which he was booked for the murder. The woman’s father said that around 7 pm on February 11, she went out of her home to use bathroom and was later found dead. The family called the police, who found the victim’s body in a mysterious condition behind a toilet.
The woman had alleged that she was gang-raped by eight men including the MLA Verma back in 2013. Then in February, 2014 Verma’s name was removed from the case and was relaxed against the accusations. In May 2016, the Allahabad High Court had sought a probe into the crime and ordered compensation of Rs 7 lakh to the victim.
The next hearing in the case was scheduled for February 21.
A Home Department official said the fact that she asked for security but it was a grave concern that despite the fears of future intimidations, the security was degenerated.
