In yet another road rage incident in the national capital, a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus driver was beaten to death by biker after the bus hit the bike in Mundka area of Delhi. DTC bus drivers went on a strike reacting against the incident after the death of 42-year-old bus driver Ashok Kumar.
“He didn’t die in an accident, he was murdered, Rs 5 lakh compensation is very less” said DTC union member Ramesh. Following the incident, the irate DTC drivers and conductors said the buses of DTC will not ply until the victim’s family is given a compensation of 1 crore and a kin is given a permanent job in DTC.
“The boy tore Ashok’s shirt and the two got into a scuffle during which the youth hit him with a helmet. He then grabbed the fire extinguisher inside the bus and hit Ashok on the chest several times,” said Manjeet Kumar, the conductor, adding, “When I went ahead to save the driver, the youth threatened everyone sitting in the bus not to come forward. He said everyone would face same consequence if they came in between.”
Ajay Kumar Singh, son of DTC bus driver Ashok Kumar Singh, said my father’s friend called me saying that my father is in a very serious condition. He was waiting for his father in a government hospital in Bahadurgarh.
“On May 5, my mother was admitted in the hospital after she complained about pain in the liver. The doctor told us that she would be discharged today. We were waiting for my father when we came to know about his death,” Ajay said.
In the incident, the biker had beaten the driver to death with helmet and fire extinguisher after the biker pulls him down of the bus as 35-odd passengers were watching. The police identified the attacker as Vijay and an FIR has been filed under Section 302 (murder) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
