Commissioner of Delhi Police BS Bassi may be announced the next Information Commissioner, even as the Delhi police gets flayed over the poor handling of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) issue and the Patiala House Court scuffle.
The selection panel is slated to choose the information commissioner on 19 February while Bassi is scheduled to retire from police service at the end of February, according to CNN-IBN.
Meanwhile, the Delhi police commissioner has briefed the Prime Minister’s Office on the JNU episode.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Ashutosh said it was shocking that Bassi, who could not administer Delhi being the commissioner of police was being rewarded. “It shows those who help the government are awarded…Bassi has been working on the behest of the top leaders in the government,” he said.
Speaking to reporters, Bassi said they have enough proof against JNU Students’ Union president Kanhaiya Kumar, who has been arrested on sedition charges.
