Coming down heavily against the Union government in general and BJP in particular, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has accused senior BJP leaders to be in the nexus with former IPL boss Lali Modi.
“This is an issue of a nexus between a proclaimed offender against whom the Enforcement Directorate has cases pending and PM Narendra Modi, foreign minister Sushma Swaraj , Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje and the BJP President Amit Shah,” he said.
Ramesh made this statement after it was revealed that Lalit Modi favoured Adani during his tenure at Gujarat Cricket association and IPL.
Adani has been one of the prime sponsors of GCA. Interestingly, until May 2014 when PM Modi was GCA president and PM Modi’s proximity to Adani is a known fact.
Congress in its statement has said “the Lalit Modi-Adani nexus has been clearly established by the documents in the domain. This nexus took shape when the PM was the President of the Gujarat Cricket Association and blossomed when Amit Shah took over.”
Since 14 June, the Congress leaders P Chidambaram, Anand Sharma and Randeep Surjewala have raised 34 questions on the Lalit Modi affair.
Opposition parties including CPM, JDU have asked PM Modi to break his silence on the matter. Clarifying JD-U’s stand on Sushma-Lalit row, party president Sharad Yadav had already told media that “IPL is a hub of corruption and the whole system is a part of it. The system has been worsening day by day. The PM must give an answer to the ‘ache din’ promises made to the people.”
