Day 1: UP CM Yogi Adityanath calls for action plan to control crime

Yogi-AdityanathUttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on March 20 met with the state police chief over the killing of a BSP politician. It was his first day at work as the CM.

The 44-year-old Adityanath asked the police chief to order the police force to be on the alert and also chalk out an action plan for better policing in a bid to rein in crime within a fortnight.

Deputy CM KP Maurya said the ruling government would take the decision to close down all abattoirs, its poll promise, in the first state cabinet meeting.

Two slaughterhouses, which were running illegally, have closed down on March 19 in Allahabad. The Yogi CM, the head priest of Gorakhnath temple in his constituency, favoured closure of abattoirs, but meat traders said such a move would hit their livelihoods.

Yogi Adityanath this morning also met the Chief Secretary, the state’s top bureaucrat, before moving into his official 5, Kalidas Marg residence. He is also likely to meet principal secretaries of all departments.

Yesterday, the CM asked all his ministers to submit details of their assets within 15 days. Also, he told them to speak to the media through UP government spokespersons Shrikant Sharma and Siddharth Nath Singh.

Also, a departmental secretaries meeting is also on the agenda on March 20. Since the yogi’s takeover, there has been speculation of a bureaucratic shuffle.
