Delhi Law Minster Somnath Bharti get a huge relief as a local court on Wednesday granted him bail in connection with a domestic violence case filed by his wife Lipika Mitra. A local court in Dwarka gives relieve to the AAP MLA from Malviya Nagar constituency after a security of Rs 1 lakh.
Earlier on October 5, Somnath Bharti’s judicial custody was extended by a fortnight after he moved a bail application in court, in an alleged domestic violence case.
The bail plea filed by Bharti, whose judicial custody was today extended till October 19 by another court, was heard today, by additional sessions judge, (ASJ) Anil Kumar.
Earlier, metropolitan magistrate Manika, extended Bharti’s judicial custody by 14 days on the Delhi Police’s plea that there was apprehension he might threaten and influence witnesses.
Hours earlier, when the SC had rejected his bail plea and asked him to apply for regular bail in the trial court, his estranged wife, Lipika Mitra told the SC she did not want to mediate to settle the domestic violence case.
During the hearing, Bharti, 41, said he hasn’t been provided food since morning, in the lock-up, inside the court premises, leading the court to issue a notice to the authorities and the jail superintendent seeking a response.
Bharti, who was produced before the court, said, he wanted to write a letter to Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, stating that his rights were being violated. The court asked him to approach the jail authorities in this regard.
