In the multi-crore Corporate Espionage scandal, one consultant has been arrested and six others detained for alleged involvement in the leaking of confidential documents from the coal and power ministries. The crime branch officials have reportedly registered a separate FIR in the case under sections of trespass, theft, criminal conspiracy and fraud.
According to the Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi, the consultant arrested has been identified as Lokesh, who worked for Infraline consultancy firm in Noida. He was arrested for obtaining leaked documents.
“During investigation, police came to know that Lokesh was allegedly involved in recovering documents from the Ministry of Coal as well as the Ministry of Power. So we have registered a case and we are making further efforts to arrest his accomplices. We have registered a second FIR,” Mr Bassi added.
Meanwhile, it is reported that a fire broke out at the office of energy consultant Prayas Jain which gutted various “assets” inside. Prayas Jain had been arrested for allegedly buying stolen secret documents of the oil ministry on February 20.
The sensational corporate espionage scandal came to light on February 19 following a four-month-long investigation conducted by the intelligence agencies at the behest of national security adviser Ajit Doval. He raised an alarm over the frequent reporting of classified matters in the media. Doval remarked that most leaks came from government offices.
