The centre has withdrawn the security cover of 31 VIP persons on, 4 September.
The list whose security has been removed includes eight family members of former home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, former speaker Meira Kumar, two former Chief Justices of India among others.
The decision was taken after a thorough security review of each of the individual and after considering their threat perception, said a home ministry official.
Security of former telecom minister A Raja, an accused in the 2G scam, former J&K Governor Lt Gen (retd) SK Sinha and NHRC chairperson KG Balakrishnan has also been withdrawn or downgraded.
Central security cover given to Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, Kerala governor and former Chief Justice of India P Sathasivam and Uttarakhand governor KK Paul were also withdrawn as they were given security by the respective state governments.
Security cover given by central forces to Shinde’s wife Ujwala, daughters Praniti and Smruti, son-in-law Raj Shroff, two granddaughters and two grandsons have been removed.
Others whose security cover has been withdrawn include former union ministers SK Sahai, V Narayanasamy and Jitin Prasada, principal secretary to former PM Manmohan Singh, TKA Nair, former MP and industrialist Naveen Jindal, former MP Abdul Rashid Shaheen and RK Dhawan, close aide of former prime minister Indira Gandhi.
Former Delhi LG Tejendra Khanna, former Solicitor General Gopal Subramaniam, former Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing, former Manipur governor VK Duggal’s son Sunil, V Narayanasamy’s daughter-in-law Yamuna, former home secretary Anil Goswami and former cabinet secretary Ajit Seth also figure in the list.
