One militant and two civilians were killed at the sight of an ongoing encounter in the Chadoora area of Budgam district. The gunfight between the militants and the security forces began on the morning of March 28.
A joint team of 53 Rashtriya Rifles, Special Operations Group of police and CRPF had launched a search and cordon operation after they received information about the presence of militants in Durbugh village. The militants open fired upon the security forces which led to a gunfight. According to reports, two terrorists were hiding in the building.
Notably, while the security forces were engaged in the gun-battle a large number of protestors gathered and started pelting stones on them. This led to security forces taking action against the protestors.
A civilian was hit in the neck with a bullet, he succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital. One more also civilian died during the protest. According to sources, 17 people have been injured as the security forces tried to disperse the crowd using tear gas shells and pellet guns.
“The youth identified as Zahid Rashid Ganai died when he was hit by a bullet near the Durbugh village gunfight site,” a police official said.
In another incident, on March 25, two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were killed when they tried to ambush a police convoy on the border of Awantipura and Pulwama districts.
