Amid the controversies surrounding the ‘growing intolerance’ in the country, BJP MP Yogi Adityanath said, on Wednesday, that “there is no difference in language of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan and terror mastermind Hafiz Saeed”.
Speaking to reporters, the MP from Gorakhpur, said Shah Rukh Khan should remember that if a “huge mass” of people in the country would boycott his films then he would also have to wander on streets like a “normal Muslim”.
He further said, “It is unfortunate that he too has joined the brigade that is hell-bent upon proving that intolerance has increased. His statement amounts to treason.” Shah Rukh Khan has also joined the brigade, Adityanath said.
Senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya yesterday, in a series of tweets, triggered a controversy, when he painted Shah Rukh as an “anti-nationalist”. He said that the actor’s “soul” is in Pakistan though he lives in India.
However, Kailash Vijayvargiya retracts his tweets against Shah Rukh Khan, saying he was “misconstrued by some”. “My tweet was misconstrued by some, I didn’t mean to hurt anyone. I retract my tweets from yesterday. If India is intolerant, then Shah Rukh Khan wouldn’t have been the most loved actor after Amitabh Bachchan,” the BJP leader, said in his latest tweet.
