Following the demise of incumbent CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, the Bharatiya Janata Party will meet to decide on extending its support to PDP president Mehbooba Mufti as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.
We are meeting today, BJP state president Sat Sharma said, and a decision on this issue will be conveyed later today.
Peoples Democratic Party had yesterday written to Governor N N Vohra about its support to Mehbooba for becoming the next Chief Minister of the state. The PDP is coalition partner of the BJP in the state government.
Only after the BJP informs the Governor about its support, Mehbooba can take oath as Chief Minister. The BJP had yesterday also made it clear that it will go with the PDP’s choice.
Senior BJP leader Ram Madhav, who played key role in sewing the alliance with the PDP, has arrived in Srinagar today to put the process of new government formation in motion.
According to reports, preparations for the swearing-in ceremony are being made at Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) and are likely to be held later in the day.
