BJP leaders involved in West Bengal child trafficking racket?



For her involvement in the Jalpaiguri child trafficking incident, the CID arrested Juhi Chowdhury, a BJP women’s wing, West Bengal unit, General Secretary from Batasia area close to Indo-Nepal border in North Bengal in Darjeeling district.

A key accused in the case, Chandana Chakraborty, who was arrested earlier, had squealed on Chowdhury and BJP leader Roopa Ganguly and BJP’s West Bengal in-charge Kailash Vijayvargiya in the case.

Chowdhury was being brought to Jalpaiguri for further interrogation and produce her before the District Court on March 1.

Following her arrest, four persons have been arrested so far. The accused have been reportedly engaged in selling babies and children to couples between Rs one lakh to Rs three lakh across India and abroad in the past few months from NGO, Bimala Sishu Griho.

It may be noted that 17 children were given for adoption to foreign couples at a high price claiming that they were given for legal adoption.

It may be noted here that the CID team also arrested Sonali Mondal, Chief Adoption Officer of the NGO, Chandana Chakraborty, NGO Chairperson and Manas Bhowmik, Chandana’s brother, were also arrested by the CID team.

The latest developments could put the party on a backfoot in West Bengal where it hopes to expand its footprint.

It may be mentioned the CID had exposed the child trafficking racket by raiding homes and nursing homes in Baduria of North 24 Parganas district and other parts of south Bengal.

Meanwhile, Vijayvargiya said he had know idea of what was happening. “I may have met Chowdhury once at the state party office. I don’t know anything more than that,” he said. Referring to the CID, he said, “There is no such thing as the CID. They are all acting as the Trinamool Congress cadre, planting stories in a bid to defame BJP leaders.”
