Bihar assembly polls between September and October


election commissionChief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi said the Bihar Assembly polls are likely to be held sometime in September-October. He added the electoral rolls will be ready on July 31.

Since the term of the current assembly ends in November, Zaidi said the Election Commission would take into account weather conditions, festivals, exams, holidays, heavy monsoon, heavy rains and floods before arriving at exact schedule.

The EC has undertaken mapping of all constituencies into three categories. Where it finds maximum sensitivity, it plans to deploy central police forces “well in time.” arivar, BJP

Refusing to say in how many phases the polls would be held, the CEC said, “Abuse of money is a big problem in Bihar. So this time we will fo for more systematic efforts. Certain legal amendments are yet to come from the Law Ministry. But within our powers, we have launched expenditure monitoring.”

To take on BJP which along with its allies had won 31 of the 40 seats in the last Lok Sabha elections in the state, the ruling JD(U) and RJD have decided to come together to fight the elections.

The VVPAT is a method of providing feedback to voters using a ballotless voting system. An EVM will have a small attachment to it which after pressing the button for a desired candidate, will print that name on a paper. It will be stored inside the machine and can be used in case of any controversy over the final result, he said.

The Commission will come out with the specific number, when asked about the number of companies. “The only thing I could say that there would be a very effective use of Central Para Military Force, because this is a standalone assembly election. There would be sufficient number of forces available.
