moist1-620x400The banned CPI-Maoists is the fourth dreaded terrorist outfit in the world after Taliban, Islamic State and Boko Haram, according to a study conducted by the United States (US).

According to data collected by the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism, US State Department, India has suffered as many as 791 terror attacks last year, of which 43 percent were carried out by Naxalites, in which 289 people were killed .

The CPI (Maoist) so far carried out 343 attacks in 2015 killing 176 Indians. Taliban were involved in 1,093 terror attacks, which claimed 4,512 lives.

The study also found that 28,328 people were killed and 35,320 injured in 11,774 terror attacks in the world in 2015.

The study also claimed that India was the fourth-hit country after Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Islamic State, on the other hand, launched 931 attacks leaving 6,050 people dead. Boko Haram, Nigeria’s militant Islamic group, carried out 491 attacks killing 5,450 people.

According to the National Consortium’s data, Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) is shown as active in Turkey stands and at the fifth position. In 238 strikes 287 people were killed.

Over half of the 791 terror attacks which took place in four states–Chhattisgarh (21 percent), Manipur (12 percent), Jammu and Kashmir (11 percent ) and Jharkhand (10 percent).

Chhattisgarh, which has been a victim of Left-wing extremism, suffered double the attacks as compared to 76 in 2014, it said.

However, the data collected by the Home Ministry shows that 2,162 civilians and 802 security personnel were killed by Naxals between 2010 and 2015.
