A 35-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting his friend’s four-year-old daughter has been arrested by the Bangalore Police on Thursday 13 December. The accused, Doraiswamy, taking advantage of the girl being alone in the house, not only assaulted her sexually, but also broke her leg. The girl has now been shifted to the city’s Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) for further examination.
According to reports, Rudresh, the victim’s father, was a close friend of Doraiswamy and had been residing in Bangalore until he suffered losses in his Bakery business. Following this, Rudresh along with his wife, four-year-old daughter and nine-month-old son shifted back to his native village Harohalli, Hassan district. Though his family was in his village, Rudresh was working in the city to make ends meet. His house rent in Bangalore was, however, borne by the Doraiswamy.
On his recent visit to his village, his daughter insisted on accompanying him to Bangalore and staying with him for few days. On 6 December, the father and daughter arrived in the city. According to the complaint filed by Bosco Childline, on 8 December, with the intention to rape Rudresh’s daughter, Doraiswamy sent him away on the pretext of a business errand. Finding the four-year-old alone at home, Doraiswamy allegedly assaulted her leading to sustained bite marks on her body.
Doraiswamy admitted the hapless child to Seva Kshetra Hospital and fled. According to the Childline co-ordinators, it was only after four days that Rudresh came to know the actual condition of his daughter. “The father came to know about it because his daughter revealed her condition to another patient’s relative, following which the helpline was contacted,’’ says Helen, psychiatric counsellor from the helpline.
The accused has been taken under custody by the Kumaraswamy Layout police and a report of the medical examination of both the accused and the victim is expected in three days.
