Now the ban on entry of men to the sanctum sanctorum of Trimbakeshwar Temple has been lifted as the authorities have revoked the 3 April resolution, banning entry of men thereby making both genders equal.
A meeting of Trimbakeshwar Devasthan Trust cancelled its earlier resolution, said Nivrutti Nagare, one of trustees and Chief Officer of Trimbakeshwar Municipal Council on 11 April.
The trust lifted its 3 April resolution following pressure from the local residents. However, the meeting didn’t decide anything about the ban on women’s entry into the sanctum sanctorum.
Under this, men, wearing a particular dress called ‘sovala’, are allowed into the sanctum sanctorum between 6 am and 7 am.
The ban, imposed from the olden days, has not been imposed in recent days . Most women do not wish to enter the sanctum sanctorum; some rays gather in the sanctum sanctorum which are not healthy for women.
Trimbakeshwar temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas and is hence seen as an important Lord Shiva temple, while women can have a darshan of the Lord.
