Moving Supreme Court, murdered scribe Rajdeo Ranjan’s wife Asha urged that trial in her husband’s murder case be shifted from Bihar to Delhi, after one wanted for killing Ranjan was photographed with minister Tej Pratap Yadav and Siwan don Shahabuddin.
Asha petitioned to the SC that Mohammad Kaif alias Bunty, the alleged shooter, was spotted with Shahabuddin and Yadav and too in the presence of several cops. Accusing Shahabuddin of being involved in her husband’s murder, her plea read that the police have not named him in in the case as a key conspirator.
Besides Ranjan murder case, Kaif is also wanted in five other cases, involving extortion and theft.
Her advocate Kishlay Panday said this shows that “If the police do not arrest Kaif and the minister is taking photographs with such people, then it is plain that the life of Ranjan’s wife and her two children is at stake”.
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), meanwhile, has been embarrassed following circulation of the photographs. Tej Pratap Yadav is the son of party RJD chief Lalu Prasad and Shahabuddin also belongs to it.
A manhunt has been launched for the accused after the CBI took over the probe into the scribe’s murder on September 14. While this was so, Kaif appeared before the media and claimed his photograph with the minister was genuine and that he was in touch with his lawyers.
Earlier on September 10, he was photographed with Shahabuddin after the don was released on bail after 11 years.
Rubbishing the allegations, the minister alleged that the BJP and RSS were behind it. “How would I know who is a shooter from the 1,000 people who click photos with me?” he asked.
Jumping to his brother’s defense, Deputy CM Tejaswi asked, “Is it written on somebody’s forehead what he is? Can Prime Minister Narendra Modi verify the background of everybody he shares dais with in a function?”
Attacking RJD for the picture, BJP member Sushil Modi asked if Tejaswi would intervene like UP CM Akhilesh Yadav and ask his father to expel Shahabuddin from the party.
