After being thrashed from rival Chile in the final of Copa-America, the Argentina forward Leo Messi shook the world announcing his retirement. Messi, who is often touted as World’s best player, was yet to win a major title with his team, missed his penalty kick in the shootout to decide the winner of the Copa- America.

The final that ended in a goalless tie at the end of 90 minutes and 30 minutes of extra time entered penalty shootout to decide a winner. Messi failed to convert his penalty into a goal as he hit the ball over the crossbar. This was his fourth major loss in the finals playing for his national side.

 “For me, the national team is over”, quoted a visible frustrated Messi.

“I’ve done all I can, I’ve been in four finals and it hurts not to be a champion.” He further said.

“It’s a hard moment for me and the team, and it’s difficult to say, but it’s over with the Argentina team.” he added.

In the final with Chile, Messi was dazed after taking the penalty shoot. ‘Coup de grace’ of Messi that was felt by thousands of his fans and it would have been worse if it was not only the penalty kick.

While Argentina lost the cup for the second straight time, Chile retained the title in the penalty shoot-out  that ended in a 4-2 win over Argentina.
