Apologise or face Rs 50-crore defamation suit: Karnataka DGP Rao to DIG Roopa

In another twist in the AIADMK leader Sasikala VIP treatment case, Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) (Prisons), HN Sathyanarayana Rao has filed Rs 50 crore defamation lawsuit against his subordinate Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), D Roopa Moudgil.

Following allegations of providing special treatment to some VIP inmates, Rao has asked Roopa to tender an unconditional apology for the alleged bribery remarks she had made against him or face Rs 50 crore defamation lawsuit.

Roopa had framed bribery charges against Rao, according to which AIADMK supremo VK Sasikala, who is serving sentence in Parappana Agrahara central prison, Bengaluru had paid Rao Rs 2 crore bribe to him to get special treatment at the central prison in the city.

After these allegations, while she was transferred as road safety and traffic commissioner, Rao was sent a leave.

Stating that Roopa’s allegations as an act to seek publicity and that it has caused immense damage to his reputation, Rao has asked Roopa to “unconditionally apologise” or face Rs 50 crore defamation suit.
