Social activist Anna Hazare would launch an indefinite fast from 2 October over Land Acquisition Bill and press for implementation of ‘one rank, one pension’ for defence personnel from Ramlila Maidan.
Hazare, 78, would return to Ramlila Maidan after a gap of four years. He had led an agitation on implementation of Lokpal bill and sat on hunger strike with thousands who had joined the protests in June, 2011.
Briefing newsmen at Ralegan Sidhi, he said, “I will launch the fast on October 2,” Hazare. I have recently written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the twin issues.
He will also honour widows and mothers of martyred defence personnel in the national capital on July 26 on ‘Shaheed Din’.
After this event, rallies of farmers and former defence personnel will be held all over the country on the issues of Land Acquisition Bill and ‘one rank, one pension’, Hazare said.
In the letter, Hazare wrote, “We have to take care of our soldiers and farmers. Making announcements for their welfare and actually implementing them are two different things.”
In a democracy, the government should listen to woes of the people and redress them. “I wish to reiterate that my agitation is not political,” activist’s letter stated.
