President Mukherjee appointed Anil Baijal to be the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi after a week Najeeb Jung suddenly resigned from the post on December 22.
A 1969 batch India Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Union Territories cadre, Baijal, 70, is a former Union home secretary and retired in 2006 as a secretary in the Ministry of Urban Development. He has also served as vice-chairman of the Delhi Development Authority.
“I welcome Shri #AnilBaijal as the Lt.Governor of Delhi,” tweeted Sushma Swaraj.
The Congress also welcomed Anil Baijal’s appointment as Delhi’s new Lieutenant Governor and expected him to reveal findings of the Shunglu Committee”
“We expect Anil Baijal to release Shunglu Committee report on corruption of AAP government soon after taking over,” tweeted Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken,
“Had the report been released, the CBI would have filed cases against the AAP government as there are irregularities in over 200 files,” said Maken.
It may be noted here that a three-member Shunglu Committee was appointed by Najeeb Jung to probe the alleged irregularities of AAP government led by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
The Committee was chaired by former Comptroller and Auditor General VK Shunglu, who submitted its report to Jung on November 27.
