Operations at the Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar were suspended due to a suspected bomb threat today morning. An unidentified briefcase was found in the parking area which triggered a security alert. CISF personnel immediately quarantined the area and the bomb disposal squad was called to verify the threat.

“An unclaimed bag was found in the parking area, the place from where the bag was found is outside the airport building and at a distance from the sensitive area”. Airport Director, Venkateswara Rao said.

According to authorities, the area outside the airport is still under security agencies control where no one is being allowed to venture as checking of suspected briefcase is still on.

Meanwhile, operations at the airport have been resumed.

Amritsar airport is located near the Pakistan border and it is a high profile target for terrorists.
