Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has accelerated his `Green UP , Clean UP’ campaign to historical heights by launching mega plantation drive in Hamirpur district of Bundelkhand region, to make a record for Guinness Books of World record for planting more than 10 lakh sapling at ten different locations of the state in the same day and time. Magsaysay Award winner and environmentalist, popularly known as ‘Waterman of India’ Rajendra Singh has also participated in the green campaign in a big way and led the drive in Mirzapur.
Highlighting his government’s priority to improve quality of environment under his campaign “#UPgoesGreen” at a public meeting organised at the site of Modha dam area the chief minister said that the farmers are the worst sufferers of environmental imbalance as they recently lost their crops due to hail storm and such calamities are resulting due to environmental factors. He applauded the participation of local masses right from early morning to take up major challenge to plant more than 10 lakh saplings in a day.
He said whatever we all doing today is a big job as we are not doing it for ourselves but for the generations to come. As sustained campaigner to increase green cover in the state Chief Minister has been organizing such plantation drives that he started on 7th July 2015 with late former President of India APJ Abdul Kalam as his chief guest in his wife Dimple Yadav’s constituency Kannauj.
Sharply reacting on BSP Supremo Mayawati’s recent statement that, “if she voted back to power she will not construct the memorials of Dalit ideologues anymore,” Akhilesh Yadav told that, “this late realization has vindicated our stand that she misused money meant for development.” Whereas Samajwadi government has started various measures to improve health services and social security schemes such as Samajwadi Pension schemes for the benefit of poor laptop to students. He lauded the policies and programmes of his Samajwadi government relating to infrastructure development in road, power, housing and medical sectors. He underlined the development of solar energy in Bundelkhand area and told his government has commissioned power plants in this area and built Medical Colleges for fulfilling the growing need of Doctors.
Forest secretary Sunil Pandey told that UP’s forest department’s endeavour is concentrated on just 10 locations in nine districts. Besides Hamirpur and Mirzapur, the drive will be undertaken at Sonebhadra, Lalitpur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Farrukhabad, Chitrakoot, Shravasti and Gautam Buddha Nagar. Uttar Pradesh government has approached the Guinness Book of World Record team to depute their auditors at all the 10 places to verify the achievement. He said that he was expecting more than 10,000 persons including the NGOs and schoolchildren to be directly involved in today’s campaign. With the active involvement of irrigation and Noida authority we could get land for this purpose, Mr. Pandey added.
