For South Indians, Ajith Kumar needs no introduction. Nicknamed as Thalai(head), the actor continues to weave his magic even at the age of 44. From a salesman in a car showroom to one of the bankable actors in south India, Ajith’s story has panned out like a fairytale. Unlike the rough and tough persona of today, Ajith used to be the quintessential chocolate boy in the beginning. Featuring in all mushy sagas Ajith was a fantasy of every young girl. It all changed for him with AR Murugadoss’s Dheena, which gave him an image of an angry young man. From then on this distinguished gentleman of south transformed from a hardcore romantic to a universal messiah. Interestingly, it was this movie which earned him the sobriquet Thalai.
In a recent poll, Ajith overtook South Indian stars including Ilayathalapathy Vijay, Telugu actors Pawan Kalyan and Mahesh Babu to emerge as the Ultimate Star of South. In a poll conducted by Bollywoodlife, Ajith was declared the Ultimate Star as he has received more than the half of the vote shares. He got 51.27% votes in the poll while his nearest competitor Vijay garnered 39.69% votes.
It was indeed strange that the two big stars of Tollywood, Pawan Kalyan and Mahesh Babu, could not come anywhere near his vote share. While Pawan Kalyan got 3.81% votes, Mahesh Babu could only earn 1.84% votes. The biggest shocker was that matinee idols like Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Malayalam superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal, Kannada actor Puneet Rajkumar, and Ravi Teja could only get meagre percentage of votes.
Ajith is one of few actors who have a reach among the new-age audience, apart from being an online favourite. He has thus far been a part of 55 films. Ajith has also done a Bollywood film, Ashoka. Those who are trying hard to refresh their memories, he played a scheming brother of Shah Rukh Khan in this forgettable flick. He was the one who popularized the famous ‘salt and pepper’ look of George Clooney. He continues to spot the same in all his movies whereas his contemporaries are going full throttle to put the clock back on them. Married to Malayalam actress Shalini, he has a son named Aadvik. Lets wish Thalai all the best on this special day and hope his magic continues unabated.
