AIIMS doctor commits suicide; blames ‘gay’ husband, fellow doctor


aiims-suicide_650x400_41429450007A senior doctor at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences was arrested for the death of his wife, a fellow doctor at AIIMS.

Priya Vedi committed suicide on Saturday by slashing her wrists in a hotel room in Paharganj in Delhi. Her husband, Kamal, called the police on Sunday and reported her missing.

The police said “Officials broke open the door and found her lying in a pool of blood on the bed, after they failed to get friendly entry inside Priya’s room by knocking at the door. She had slit her writs with a sharp-edged weapon and was lying in unconscious condition. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.”

Priya was an anaesthetist at AIIMS and Kamal a dermatologist. They had married five years ago.

In a lengthy suicide note, Priya claimed that her husband told her soon after their wedding that he was a homosexual. She went on to say that she accepted it, but after a series of painful incidents with her husband, found that there was suicide was her only choice.

She also said that her husband harassed for dowry money and once forced her to consume sleeping pills.

Kamal Vedi has been arrested under the abetment of suicide and Dowry Act.
