Agra violence: UP Police arrest 14 Bajrang Dal, VHP activists


Agra-ViolenThe UP police on April 23 arrested 14 members associated with the right-wing outfits in connection with violence in Agra’s Sadar Bazaar and attack on Fatehpur Sikri police station on April 22.

“We have arrested 14 persons in connection with the violence yesterday”, informed DIG Mahesh Mishra.

It all started when a group of Hindutva activists, reportedly from Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal were taken into police custody for beating up Muslim men in Fatehpur Sikri. However, activists of two groups also reached the police station and reportedly got into heated arguments with the Circle Officer Ravikant Parashar.

The situation got violent and in a bid to free arrested fellow activist, the group pelted stones at the police station.

According to SSP Agra, Pritinder Singh, the Hindutva mob barged into the police station at night and tried to open the cell and release their men. Police personnel lathi-charged the mob which pelted stones at them. In the confusion it tried to snatch the revolver of Sub-Inspector Santosh Kumar and set a few vehicles outside the police station on fire,
