Agra Church Vandalized: Miscreants put Dog Chain on Mother Mary’s idol

In yet another attacks on religious building, a church in Agra was allegedly vandalized by unknown miscreant in the wee hour. Taking the advantage of wee hour, alleged miscreats vandalized the St Mary’s Church in the Pratabpura area of Agra Cantonment in Uttar Pradesh.

The incident triggered outrage among the members of the local Christian community. Leaders of Christian community in Agra condemned the act.

Senior officials of Agra district, including the district magistrate and police officials have reached the church to take to review security arrangement in the area.

According to police sources, the vandals dislodged and damaged four statues of Mother Mary while putting a dog chain on one of them at the church which is located in the Pratabpura area of Agra city.

The head priest of the church, Father Moon Lazarus, asserted, “The intruders intended to hurt our religious sentiments as they placed the head of child Jesus Christ in the hand of Mother Mary and attached a dog chain to the neck.” Two statues in glass boxes were destroyed and the lock of the main entrance to the church was broken. A notice board and a car parked within the premises were also damaged.

The police have registered an FIR at Rakabganj police station against unknown miscreant.

Meanwhile, the irate Christian community leaders have demanded firm action against the culprits within 24 hours. And the Church officials said the Christian community members will hold a protest march later in the day against the act.
