Amid the internal crisis and war of words between AAP leaders, Aam Aadmi chief and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has resigned as AAP national convener. The AAP chief took this step just some few hours ahead of Aam Aadmi Party’s crucial national executive meeting which is likely to decide the fate of Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan in its political affairs committee (PAC).

According to media reports  Kejriwal sent his resignation letter to AAP national secretary Pankaj Gupta . They said Kejriwal had offered to quit in the last meeting of the national executive council (NEC) on February 26, but it was rejected overwhelmingly by the council. The latest offer too will likely be rejected, said sources, adding that Kejriwal would not attend the  NEC meeting. In his letter, Kejriwal reportedly said he was overburdened and was finding two  posts that of Chief Minister and national convenor a tough task to handle.

The Delhi chief minister had earlier broken his silence on the rifts in the party, saying he was deeply hurt and pained by the various arguments and remarks. “I am deeply hurt and pained by what is going on in the party; this is betrayal of trust that Delhi posed in us,” Kejriwal, tweeted. “I refuse to be drawn into this ugly battle. Will concentrate on Delhi’s governance. Will not let people’s trust break under any circumstances,” he added.

According to sources, the Delhi chief minister has reportedly said that he could not attend the meeting due to his health condition. He will be leaving for Bengaluru for naturopathy treatment for a period of 10 days to recover from his high sugar level and a consistent bout of cough.

“Hectic schedule, hard work and stress for past several months have taken serious toll on his health. His sugar level is high for the past few days and doctors have advised him medical leave,” Sanjay Singh, AAP national spokesperson, had said.

Meanwhile, non-resident Indian supporters launched a social media campaign #United AAP, appealing to the AAP leaders for reconciliation and togetherness among party leadership. The appeal was signed by 32 AAP NRI chapters, including from the US, the UK, Japan, Australia, France, Canada, North Carolina, Qatar, Kenya, New Zealand, Netherlands, West Central Africa, Germany, Oman, Singapore, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Hong Kong.
