Following the death of the farmer who had committed suicide during the Aam Aadmi Party rally, Delhi police officials have confirmed that the deceased farmer’s name was Gajendra Singh from Rajasthan. He was rushed to the Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) hospital in serious condition, where doctors said that he was brought dead.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said, “Delhi Police played politics. We kept asking DP to save the farmer.” He further added, “Delhi Police is not under my control.”

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has reached the Lady Hardinge hospital, where the deceased body was brought for autopsy, and is expected to meet the farmer’s family.  “Farmers are being punished by the Modi government. Foundation of the country has been laid by the farmers. Modi government helps their crony corporates. In Parliament, they said suicides aren’t taking place,” he said.

Bharatiya Janta Party and Congress have expressed concern that rally continued even after such an unfortunate incident.

Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhya said police should investigate the matter thoroughly. He alleged that Aam Aadmi Party workers who were wearing AAP caps helped the farmer climb the tree. “Blaming police is akin to running away from responsibility. Police should investigate this matter thoroughly,” he said.

Reacting to the allegation, AAP leader Sanjay Singh, said,”Our volunteers took him to the hospital, and as soon as the news of his death came, Arvind Kejriwal and other leaders rushed to the hospital. It was our volunteers and not police who took him to the hospital,” he added.
