Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, has been mounted with sedition charges in Kanpur sessions court, for his ‘intolerance’ remarks and the hearing is set to take place on December 1.
Advocate Manoj Kumar Dixit, who filed the case against Aamir Khan, said his ‘anti-national’ statement amounts to sedition.
The case has been filed under IPC section 124 A (sedition), 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups on religious grounds) 153 B (Imputations) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief).
Aamir’s remarks on “intolerance” during the Indian Express’ Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Award event has sparked row across the country.
In an interaction during the event, Aamir Khan said, “As an individual, as part of this country as a citizen, we read in the papers what is happening, we see it on the news and certainly, I have been alarmed. I can’t deny. I have been alarmed by a number of incidents.”
“Kiran and I have lived all our lives in India. For the first time, she said, should we move out of India? That’s a disastrous and big statement for Kiran to make to me,” Khan had said, adding, “She fears for her child. She fears about what the atmosphere around us will be. She feels scared to open the newspapers every day. That does indicate that there is a sense of growing disquiet.”
