Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has asked his wife Kiran Rao to leave Mumbai with their child, for few days, following the outrage caused by Aamir’s intolerance statements quoting his wife as saying, during an event in Delhi, Hindustan Times reported.

Not only from BJP and other Hindu groups, the 50-year-old actor has been facing criticism even from Bollywood’s fraternities. He revealed that his wife had suggested moving abroad following a many incidents in the country.

“Aamir has asked Kiran to leave Mumbai for 2-3 days since he has been worried about her safety. They have decided to not talk further on this issue,” source told Hindustan Times, on condition of anonymity. “The actor feels that he has already expressed his opinion on the matter and has nothing to clarify.”

Following the PK actor’s remark, a complaint has also been registered at a police station in New Delhi

“Kiran and I have lived all our lives in India. For the first time, she said, should we move out of India? That’s a disastrous and big statement for Kiran to make to me,” Khan had said, adding, “She fears for her child. She fears about what the atmosphere around us will be. She feels scared to open the newspapers every day. That does indicate that there is a sense of growing disquiet.”

BJP government had called Aamir’s remarks”alarmist” and an attempt to tarnish India’s image. “We won’t let Aamir leave the country, he is safe. This kind of comment influenced by a politically motivated campaign insults those who have given so much honour to Aamir in India,” said Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.

Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, said the number of deaths in communal incidents had come down since the BJP came to power last year. “This is unnecessarily tarnishing the image of the nation,” he said.
