Sheeba Mani, mother of Reshma, who was found dead at her husband’s house under mysterious circumstances on 15th August 2015, has been fighting ever since to unravel the truth behind the death of her daughter. “I will fight this battle until justice is delivered to the soul of my daughter,” she said in an interview to a Malayalam web portal.

Though, Pastor Binoy Babu Nellikkunnam, husband of 26 year old Reshma, and his family claim that it was a suicide, Sheeba and most of her neighbours suspect foul play. According to them it is nothing but a meticulously executed murder. “It was no doubt a murder. Scratches on the face of Binoy and change of colour under Reshma’s nose are clear evidence of a murder,” says Sheeba.

Sheeba and her relatives also accused the Fire Wings, a Christian religious group where Reshma’s husband Binoy works as a pastor, of influencing the investigation officers and thus misleading the probe.

According to sources, Reshma had talked to her mother over telephone just two hours prior to her death. Sheeba narrates the incident: “After two hours I got a call telling me she died. One of the neighbors who rushed to the house reportedly heard Binoy’s father screaming at him asking whether he will be arrested “for what happened”. He also saw Binoy stopping him from speaking out and locked him in a room. The possibility of a suicide is impossible since my daughter was very fond of her children and sounded happy over the telephone hours before her death. More importantly, how can a five-feet tall girl hang herself on a three-feet high window bar, that too in front of her children?”

Shedding light on personal choices of her daughter, the distraught mother revealed that Reshma wanted to lead a religious life. That was the only reason for her marriage with a pastor. However, soon after the marriage, Reshma was disappointed in Binoy’s alleged habit of keeping illicit relationship with numerous girls. She had reportedly been tortured mentally and physically for questioning his long calls to many girls, particularly with one girl from US.
Sheeba concluded by saying that she has belief in the law of the land, and one day justice will be served.

Meanwhile, many activists and social workers have embarked on campaigning through the Facebook page “Justice for Reshma”, challenging the clout of political and economic powers interfering in the case. An association of expat Malayali from Bahrain also has handed over a written petition to the Home Minister of Kerala, appealing for a fair probe into the controversial murder case.
