Five-hour long Sopore encounter ends, two militants killed


Army jawansTwo militants have been killed by the army jawans after taking shelter inside a house on 17 June in North Jammu and Kashmir’s Sopore region bringing a five-hour long encounter to an end.

A gunfight broke out between security forces after the militants opened fire on the security convoy in Sopore in Baramulla district. While one of of the militants was gunned down soon, the second militant managed to keep the army at bay for hours together.

On a tip off, security forces surrounded a house in Chana Mohalla this morning, said a senior police officer.

Meanwhile, the army laid a ring surrounding the house the militant was holed in. The encounter finished once the army overpowered the militant and killed him.

On 16 June, four terrorists were killed by security forces in an infiltration bid along the Line of Control. One army jawan succumbed to serious injuries. The encounter took lace in Tangdhar sector.
