Gunman attacked a guest house popular with foreigners in Kabul on Wednesday killing at least seven people, including an American and four Indians.

In a terrorist attack, fourteen were killed including four Indians and an American at a guest house as the venue hosted a party for foreigners in Afghan capital, Kabul.  The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.

A US Embassy spokeswoman confirmed that one American was killed in the attack.

Three gunmen armed with AK-47 rifles made their way into the Park Palace guesthouse in the Kolola Pushta neighbourhood a little after 8pm, said Hasib Sadiqi, a spokesman for the intelligence agency, NDS.

“It was a suicide mission carried out by one of our mujaheddin from Logar. The attack was planned carefully to target the party in which important people and Americans were attending,” Taliban  said in a statement.

During the fighting between attackers and rescuer, it is reported another six people had been injured and 54 hostages were rescued from the Park Palace guest house. Authorities had cordoned off the area around the guest house after the attack started.

Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “In the aircraft I got news about the attack in Kabul. Am concerned about the situation & I pray for everyone’s safety.” He is on a three-day visit to China. Now he has arrived in China
