The fierce gunbattle that broke out between terrorists and security personnel at Nagrota army camp and Samba sector in Jammu and Kashmir ended on November 27 evening. As per the latest media updates, three soldiers and four terrorists were killed in the gunbattle. Four jawans and a policeman received injuries.

According to preliminary reports, three terrorists were seen close to an ammunition depot of White Knight Corps Army Unit in Nagrota.

Following the Nagrota terror attack, a red alert was sounded and security was beefed up in and around Vaishnodevi town.

Armed suicide attackers entered the army base in Nagrota before daybreak with guns and grenades and forced their way in. Two terrorists are believed to have been killed but more are hiding in the officers’ mess.

The terrorists — there were reportedly up to four — fired indiscriminately at the Officers’ Mess before taking positions inside the L-shaped building.

Nagrota, which is 20 km from Jammu, is the HQ of the army’s 16 Corps, a massive military formation that defends the borders and fights terrorists in the greater Jammu region.

The terrorists entered the army unit around 5.30 am and lobbed grenades and indulged in heavy firing.

How the terrorists breached high-security army will be probed. Also, the The army will investigate later how the attackers breached the highly fortified base, but officers said the terrorists were from the fidayeen or suicide squad and were “highly motivated and determined to get in”.
